FAQs
How does it work?
This is a unique service that isn’t possible without your input and family knowledge. You’ll be the designated gatherer of information, and I’ll use that material to produce the design.
If you’re interested in working together, please email me through the ‘Contact’ page. I’ll get back to you to organise a free 30 minute consultation to find out more about your family and answer any questions you have. I’ll then get back to you with a quote for the work, an estimated completion date and an agreement. As a small business, I ask for a 30% deposit upon engagement. Once that’s sorted, I’ll start the work as soon as possible.
What do you need from me?
Family Tree Designs: The first and last names of the line of direct ancestors relating to you, you and your partner, or your children. I’ll send you a template that you can complete.
Family Symbols Design: A collection of up to 40 symbols to feature on the design, supplied to me in one folder as high resolution scans. It’s important that these are at print resolution (300 dots per inch or higher) and aren’t blurry, pixellated, skewed or incomplete. The better the image, the sharper and higher quality the outcome. I’ll also need a brief description of each symbol to explain its significance for the design’s accompanying booklet.
Family Sayings Design: Sayings from 14 different people or family groups. If they’re short, I can fit two or three sayings in each box. I’ll fit on as many as space allows, but it makes sense that each text box/square is attributed to only one person or group.
Family Recipe Design: A high resolution (300 dots per inch) scan of your chosen recipe.
What if I don’t have a scanner?
If you don’t have a scanner, your local library is usually happy to assist and should be able to email it straight from their copier. If you live in Central Otago I can bring my scanner to you.
Who does the framing?
Kin Creative uses framefox.co.nz for printing and framing. The Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland-based company produces each museum-grade frame and print from scratch using high-quality materials right here in Aotearoa New Zealand. Framefox’s wide range of frame mouldings are sourced through PEFC and FSC certified suppliers – ensuring only sustainably sourced timber is used.
Please forward any printing or framing questions regarding a job to me, and I’ll communicate directly with Framefox.
What glazing options are there?
Glazing protects your artwork, print or photo from dust and damage. Standard glass is included in the price for each frame, with the float framed canvas options an exception.
Framefox’s glazing options are:
Standard glass
Standard clear 2mm glass, works well for most applications except those exposed to sunlight.
Artglass UV 99™
Engineered to block over 99% of harmful UV rays, Artglass UV 99™ offers museum-grade protection to preserve artwork from fading and discolouration.
Artglass AR 70™ Anti‑Reflective Glass
Anti-reflective glass that reduces glare to less than 1% and transmits over 98% of visible light. Offers crystal-clear viewing with 70% UV protection.
How long does it take to receive my framed design after it goes to print?
Production and delivery time can take approximately 2 weeks after I’ve sent the file to print. If you still haven’t received it after that time, I’ll chase it up with Framefox and let you know the status of the job. Please leave all correspondence with Framefox to me.
