Family Recipes

“It’s a good keeper if it ever gets the chance to keep.” Nanabelle

Family recipes are cherished items that are portals to the past, connecting us to people, past events, places, and feelings. A handwritten recipe can communicate so much. The words above feature at the bottom of my great grandmother’s boiled fruit cake recipe written out by my nana. It’s written out in her characteristic handwriting including imperial measurements, helpful instructions, and a touch of humour. Seeing her handwriting displayed in our home brings her and my great grandmother to our thoughts and adds a feeling of nostalgia and warmth. Baking the recipe triggers memories of happy days spent with Nanabelle.

To produce the design, I digitally draw over a photograph or scan of the original recipe, carefully recording the characterful handwriting. This creates a vector file that can be scaled to any size without losing quality and is used to produce the final design.

  • Float Framed Canvas Option

    The design is printed on gallery-quality 420gsm polycotton canvas using 12 colour archival pigment inks on the latest Epson printers, sealed with archival laminate for vibrant, fade-resistant colours, and expertly stretched and framed in a premium, ready-to-hang Mayfield float frame (1cm wide x 4.5cm deep). The Mayfield frame is a soft-shade light timber with a simple elegant design.

    Framed Print Options

    Paper: Enhanced Matte 230gsm — a luxurious, flat matte surface that delivers sharp detail and rich, highly saturated colour. 

    Print: Printed on industry-leading 12-colour Epson SureColour® printers for a brilliant, durable finish.

    Glass: Standard glass is included in the price. Premium glass options are also available for an additional cost.

    Frame: Made from solid timber. Zeppelin Skinny is a sleek, slim-line black satin wood frame measuring 20mm wide x 20mm deep. Prefer a different look?     Finish: Each piece is finished with bevel-cut mats, a taped back, and suitable hanging hardware attached.
